First Latin-American Wind Plant once again generates renewable energy for Costa Ricans
  • PESA turns on its wind turbines to generate energy for the country.

San José, November 23, 2023. The project “Plantas Eólicas SRL”, better known as PESA, reactivates its wind turbines in order to continue generating renewable energy for Costa Ricans, as it had done since 1996 when it surprised all of Latin America by starting its operation in the country.

With PESA’s reactivation, as a wind power park, around 58 GWh per year will be generated, equivalent to the annual consumption of 21,000 homes.  This, due to the wind turbines placed in the upper parts of Tilarán. This area stands out for having extraordinary winds, which produce large-scale wind energy.

At Corporación Multi-Inversiones (CMI), a leading company in the renewable energy generation market, the start of operations of PESA fills us with great joy, because, in addition to contributing to the national economy, it also contributes to the community of Tilarán.

According to Adolfo Conejo, PESA’s manager, getting this wind farm to operate again in the country, is a source of great pride for its trajectory, being the first wind plant in Latin America.

“Since our arrival in Costa Rica, we have been motivated by a strong commitment to the country and the consumers. Therefore, seeing PESA turbines start is a great achievement because we continue to contribute to the diversification of the energy matrix of the national electric grid, promoting efficiency and the sustainable development of the country and also because we continue to be part of Costa Rica’s commitment to clean energy,” commented Conejo.

Thanks to the efforts of the country, the company, and the sector; CMI will produce clean energy for Costa Rica and will be able to continue advancing along the path of success and regional investment, contributing responsibly to a greener environment, complying with Costa Rican legislation and the highest standards of sustainability, generating investment, employment, productive chains and local development.
